Close is a monochromatic mixed-media study of intimacy, connection and vulnerability. Two figures—a man and a woman—are subtly intertwined within layers of acrylic, spray paint, texture and expressive marks. Their closeness is deliberately understated, allowing the figures to emerge almost as a discovery within the abstract surface.
Close marked my first exploration of erotic art through mixed media. I wanted to suggest intimacy rather than simply depict it, allowing the male and female forms to almost disappear into the textures and movement of the canvas. My friend Bonny was there watching as I created the work, making it part of a very personal moment in my artistic development. Along with Charlie 1, Close remains in my Private Reserve Collection—two works I regard as important milestones in my journey as an artist.
