Coast of the Moon is a vivid, dreamlike coastal landscape where reality gives way to imagination. A small sailing boat moves across richly coloured waters toward a fantastical shoreline of towering, almost storybook-like buildings. The crescent moon hangs above the scene, while bold geometric shapes, deep blues, purples, reds and golds create a world that feels both familiar and otherworldly. The strong black outlines give the painting an illustrated quality, almost like a scene from a dream or an imaginary children's tale. There is a wonderful sense of journey and discovery in the work—the boat seems to be leaving the ordinary world behind and sailing toward somewhere that exists only in the imagination.
What makes Coast of the Moon particularly special is that my son gave the painting its name. The title transformed the work for me. What could simply have been a colourful coastal scene suddenly became a place that doesn't exist on any map—a mysterious coast somewhere beyond the familiar, where the moon seems close enough to touch and the buildings belong to another world. I love that my son saw something in the painting that perhaps I hadn't consciously intended. That is one of the beautiful things about art: the artist creates the image, but the viewer completes the story. Coast of the Moon is therefore not only a painting of a place—it is a painting about imagination, childhood, discovery and the worlds we create together. Sometimes the most meaningful titles aren't given by the artist. They're discovered by someone who sees the painting with completely different eyes.
