Layla 1 is a striking study of the female form, expressed through a restrained palette of charcoal, ivory and soft grey. Bold areas of black surround and define the figure, while the lighter tones bring the body forward from the darkness. The composition is intimate and contemplative, with flowing shapes and confident, expressive brushwork creating a sense of movement without relying on excessive detail. The contrast between light and shadow gives the figure both softness and strength, allowing the viewer to experience the beauty of the human form through shape, rhythm and presence. There is something almost sculptural about the way the body emerges from the darkness — sensual, powerful and quietly vulnerable.
Layla 1 is part of my exploration of the female form and the idea that beauty exists in all its shapes and sizes. I wasn't interested in creating an image of an idealised woman. I wanted to capture something more honest — the feeling of a woman simply being herself, comfortable within her own form. The darkness surrounding Layla represents the world falling away, leaving only the woman and the presence of her body. The strong contrasts and simplified forms are intentional: they remove distractions and ask the viewer to look beyond conventional ideas of perfection. Layla 1 is about acceptance, femininity and individuality — a celebration of the quiet power that exists in simply being seen as you are.
