Lillies
acrylic and oil pastels29 · 29 × 42 cm · 2024
A delicate celebration of nature's quiet elegance, this floral study captures the fleeting beauty of blossoms in bloom. Soft layers of acrylic are enriched with expressive oil pastel marks, creating a gentle interplay of texture, light, and colour. The muted background allows the luminous pink and white petals to emerge with warmth and grace, inviting the viewer to pause and appreciate the simple yet profound beauty found in nature's most fragile moments.
I have always enjoyed having fresh flowers in my home. They have a way of softening a space, bringing a sense of peace and reminding me to appreciate life's quieter moments. This painting wasn't planned—it began as a spontaneous moment of play, inspired simply by the flowers in front of me and the desire to explore colour, texture and light. Using acrylic and oil pastels, I allowed the piece to develop naturally, focusing less on botanical accuracy and more on capturing the feeling the flowers evoked. For me, this work is a reminder that beauty doesn't always need a grand occasion; sometimes it is found in the simple act of pausing, observing, and creating.
