LOLA 1 Acrylic and pastel — 18 × 13 cm Lola appears lost in a private moment, her head tilted gently as though caught between thought and daydream. Her exaggerated eyes and bold, expressive features give her an almost theatrical personality, while the vivid blocks of colour create a playful, dreamlike atmosphere. The strong black lines deliberately simplify and fragment her form, allowing the colours to become part of her character rather than simply describing her appearance. Lola 1 is a glimpse of a woman in her own world — curious, thoughtful and quietly seductive. LOLA 2 Acrylic and pastel — 18 × 13 cm In Lola 2, the same imagined character becomes more animated and self-assured. Her direct gaze and expressive pose create a stronger relationship with the viewer, while the flowing shapes and intense colours suggest movement, energy and personality. The work embraces spontaneity rather than realism. Lola is fragmented into colour, line and shape, leaving the viewer to construct their own idea of who she might be. Together, Lola 1 and Lola 2 are two different glimpses of the same imagined woman — two moods, two moments, one Lola.
The story behind the paintings Some women capture your attention in more ways than one. It might begin with a glance — but then there is something else. A mood. An attitude. The way she carries herself. The mystery of what lies behind the expression. Lola 1 and Lola 2 were born from that idea. They are two impressions of the same imagined woman: two sides, two moods, two moments. One feels more contemplative and elusive; the other more confident, playful and engaging. I wasn't interested in simply painting a woman. I wanted to capture the effect she has on the imagination — that moment when someone becomes more interesting the longer you look. Two paintings. Two impressions. One Lola.
