Touch 1 is a study of the female figure viewed through gesture, form and self-awareness. The woman is captured in a compact, intimate pose, her arms and hands creating a continuous rhythm across the composition. The restricted palette of black, charcoal, grey and ivory gives the painting a dramatic, almost monochromatic quality. Rather than defining the figure with precise anatomical detail, broad expressive strokes allow the body to emerge and disappear within the surrounding darkness. The hands are central to the composition, drawing attention to the relationship between the woman and her own body. The fragmented forms and strong tonal contrasts create a sense of movement while maintaining a quiet, contemplative atmosphere.
Touch 1 is about the relationship a woman has with her own body. The simple act of touching oneself can be an expression of awareness, comfort, confidence and acceptance. I wanted to capture that private moment of connection — a woman experiencing her own physical presence without the need for an outside observer. The title Touch therefore has a broader meaning. It is not simply about physical contact; it is about self-awareness and the way we experience ourselves through our senses. By keeping the figure partially abstracted and surrounded by darkness, I wanted to leave the moment personal and open to interpretation. The painting asks the viewer to look beyond the physical form and consider the woman’s relationship with herself.
